Police officer assaulted

A WOMAN police officer was assaulted at the Grafton Police Station yesterday morning by a woman who had just woken up.

Police had taken the woman to the station earlier in the morning after they found her asleep on a footpath in Grafton.

The woman then fell asleep on the foyer bench inside the station.

At 6am when the woman woke up police said she started yelling, swearing and spitting at the officers.

When the officers on duty tried to calm her down, police said the woman became aggressive and as they tried to wrestle her to the ground, the woman allegedly punched a female officer in the face, giving her a bloody nose.

Police arrested the woman and charged her with malicious damage, resisting police and assaulting a police officer.
