Police seek witnesses to van collision

POLICE have called for witnesses after a single-vehicle crash near Lanitza yesterday left a Grafton man in a critical condition.

It is believed the man was headed south on Orara Way when his white Mercedes van veered off the road and collided with a gum tree about noon.

A passerby alerted emergency services to the incident, who arrived on the scene soon after.

State Emergency Service rescue crews worked the 56-year-old man free by removing the back seat of the car.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital by ambulance, where he was in a critical condition yesterday afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident and have asked any witnesses to phone the Grafton Police Station on 6642 0222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
