Poll sends carbon message to MP

The latest Newspoll has sent a very clear message to Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott over the Gillard Government’s carbon tax, Federal Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker said today.

Mr Hartsuyker was commenting on the latest poll which shows Labor’s primary vote had dropped to 30 per cent and their two-party preferred had dropped four points to 46 per cent. The poll also confirmed that a majority of Australians are against the tax.

Mr Hartsuyker said the poll reflected community concern over the impact of the carbon tax on jobs and the cost of living.

“Australians are sending a very clear message to Mr Oakehsott that they don’t want this carbon tax,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“Despite Mr Oakeshott saying he would vote for a carbon tax ‘tomorrow’, the reality is he is once again voting against the wishes of his electorate.

“He needs to determine whether he is going to continue propping up this lame government or whether he is going to start representing his constituents.

“North Coast residents are already doing it tough and simply can’t afford a carbon tax which will drive up the cost of everything."
