In the dark: 6000 customers affected by Yamba power outage

UPDATE, 10.45AM: A POWER outage which affected Yamba last night was caused by a broken high voltage insulator at the Yamba Zone Substation.

A spokeswoman from Essential Energy said 6000 customers throughout Yamba were left without power from 5.23pm while Essential Energy' employees worked to fix the problem.

"Essential Energy's Zone Substation crews were quick to respond, locating the fault and re-directing power around the network to restore supply to more than 2700 customers at 7.30pm," she said.

"Repairs were undertaken and remaining customers had their power restored at 11.30pm."

If any customer has concerns regarding the outage, they can phone Essential Energy on 13 20 80.

EARLIER: THE Daily Examiner is waiting on a response from Essential Energy about the cause of last night's Lower Rivers power outage.

Businesses and residences across Yamba and reportedly in some parts of Maclean, Iluka and Gulmarrad lost power from about 5pm to 11pm last night, leaving the coastal towns in the dark.

More to come.
