Essential Energy wants to install new power box at Maclean

MACLEAN residents will be interested to learn they are not just about to get a large supermarket at the front of the bowls club but also, possibly, a power box atop a 1.8m-high concrete block.

Essential Energy has written to the council requesting in- principle support to build a padmount substation at the back of the Maclean Library.

The company has asked to build the power box on land deemed unsuitable for parking by Clarence Valley Council staff.

And Essential Energy said it would "provide greater security of the electricity supply to support the ever-growing demands of the Maclean CBD."

Because the box contains electrical wiring it will have to be built above the one-in-100-year flood mark.

So, it will be mounted on a 1.8m-high concrete block.

The council's director of works Troy Anderson made clear the design was yet to be finalised.

The issue of the box will be discussed at Tuesday's meeting.
