Power to the people

FOR most small businesses, the rising cost of electricity is unavoidable and opening the bill each quarter usually comes with a shock.

But for the owners of Toyworld Maclean, Boyd and Sharon Moore, their power bill has decreased over the past six months.

As members of the Maclean Chamber of Commerce, earlier this year they discovered they were eligible to receive up to 19% off their electricity.

While it's an offer that sounds too good to be true, Mr Moore said soon after signing up he received his first account, which was the lowest he'd seen in more than five years in business.

"To us it's worth about $1000 a year in our pockets," he said. "It makes a big difference."

Mr Moore said the application process was easy and the savings appeared on the next bill.

Toyworld Maclean is one of many small businesses across NSW which have successfully applied for the offer, which is available to NSW Business Chamber member sites using less than 160,000 kilowatt hours annually, and the discounts apply for 24 months.

Through the Better Energy Manager Program, delivered by Member Benefits Program provider Energetics, members can receive up to 19% off usage charges.

Rates for members who use more than 160,000 kilowatt hours are available on application.

15% discount off NSW regulated tariffs

3% discount for paying on time, and
