Predicted rain and storms sees flood watch issued for Coffs

PREDICTIONS of more heavy rain and possible severe thunderstorms across the Coffs Coast today and early tomorrow morning has seen a flood watch being issued.

The Bureau of Meteorology is at pains to say the flood watch is a "heads up" for possible future flooding and is NOT an official flood warning.

The Bureau has predicted a 75% chance of flooding in the following river valleys from Monday night onwards and during Tuesday morning:

  • Coffs Harbour - minor flooding along Coffs Creek
  • Bellinger River Valley - minor to moderate flooding
  • Nambucca River Valley - minor flooding
  • Orara River Valley - minor flooding

The flood watch means people living or working along the above mentioned rivers and creeks must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service.

Across NSW about 75% of Flood Watches are followed by flooding within the catchment.
