BYRON Bay's 'Dancing Man', Tommy Franklin, has certainly made an impact on Australia with his fun-loving attitude and joy-exuding dancing on Australia's Got Talent, but now it's getting serious as the final hour draws near.

As one of the 12 contestants in this year's AGT grand final, airing this Sunday, Tommy is in the running to win a huge cash prize of $250,000 and a massive kickstart to his career - a boost he said he would like to use to educate children in schools about living a healthy lifestyle through dance workshops, just as he has done.

How to vote for Tommy - (voting closes at noon today)

Dancing, he said, had allowed him to find hope after years of drug and alcohol addiction, which led him down a dark path as a teenager - almost driving him to suicide.

"Things can be hard and it's easy to switch off or drown your sorrows," Mr Franklin said.

"Kids think that's the only way out and that's what I did and I almost lost my life.

"I want kids to know there is another way."

After a serious accident where he badly injured his legs, Tommy turned to dance, which he said provided him with extraordinary happiness - something he loved to share with others.

While winning the competition would be fantastic, Tommy has said that, whatever happens, he will keep dancing for his "own thrills".

"When you sing or dance you're putting your heart into it and that's how I express myself every day," Tommy said.

To show support for Tommy, the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay is holding an official party on Sunday night to watch as the grand final airs on TV.

Beginning at 6.30pm, the Tommy's Got Talent party is free for all ages.

Head along in your Tommy-inspired get-up, with prizes for the best dressed.
