Public meeting ahead of rally

WITH just over 180 days to go until the Rally Australia race begins, the organisers are holding a public meeting to inform residents, community and businesses about the Rally.

This will be held at the meeting rooms beside the Cathedral in Duke Street, Grafton on Thursday from 5.30pm. All welcome.

The Rally Australia World Rally competition will see about 80 teams racing three rally courses located across the Coffs Coast region from September 9 to 11. A leg of the race will be run in the Glenreagh area, using existing roads previously used for Rally events.

With more than  20,000 visitors, teams, and organisers expected in the region, Grafton should expect a substantial influx of tourists and spectators in local accommodation.

The Grafton Chamber of Commerce and Industry is working closely with Clarence Valley Council, Clarence River Tourism Board and local businesses to develop at strategy to attract business and benefits for Grafton. This includes encouraging businesses to supply organiser’s needs – from catering and scaffolding to porta loos and merry-go-rounds.

They will also be looking for co-ordinators, volunteers and people to offer other entertainment to public viewing areas on the race day.
