Purton enjoying race wins

FORMER North Coast jockey Zac Purton is tearing up his opposition at Sha Tin, Hong Kong.

The former Red Rock resident and Coffs Harbour apprentice rode three more winners on Sunday to take his season tally to 40, 19 wins ahead of second-placed Olivier Doleuze (21).

Thirteen-time champion Douglas Whyte is third on 19 wins.

"I'm not getting carried away," Purton told www.racingandsports.com.au.

"I'm just getting the opportunities and it's nice to have them, but I've been in this place long enough to know that it doesn't take long for something to go wrong and all of a sudden you are not getting as many opportunities."

His strike rate so far this season is bettered only by Whyte, who recorded 41 winners by the first week of December in 2003-04.
