Qld water titles head to Clarence

DON’T worry about the name – the Queensland Water Ski Titles are sure to cause a splash when they motor into town this weekend.

The beauty of the Clarence River has again held sway for officials north of the border, who will take the event to Grafton’s water for a fifth consecutive time in 2010.

With 35 boats entering – including a host of local hopefuls as well as competitors from Victoria to Cairns – it promises to be a wonderful event.

Sunday afternoon saw locals attend to some last-minute prop testing and a training run on the course, achieving some great results.

Ross Stephenson (outboard), Nick Campbell, Adam Smidt, Mark Smidt (outboard), Melissa Smidt, Mark Stephenson (outboard), Jason Disson, Frazer Robinson, Mick Gane (inboard), and Corindi’s Shannon Gane, Latasha Gane Trevor Bray, Adam Bail will all take part.

Last year’s male winner, Mark Weaver, will join female titleholder Suzie Cartwright in the field on the weekend.

Racing starts 8.30am Saturday with men’s and women’s marathon competitions before Sunday sees open men’s and women’s divisions before the engine classes.

The event will be based at Corcoran Park (the end of Villiers Street).

Catering is available from the Southampton Rural Fire Service and The Roving Coffee.
