New Jacaranda Queen’s thrilling moment
THE shock may have taken its time to wear off, but once the reality had sunk in, Emily Causley could hardly wipe the smile off her face.
Crowned the 2014 Jacaranda Queen, Ms Causley said she was thrilled to be given the honour.
"I was so surprised, I never thought I would win," she said.
"I never went in it to win it; it was for the experience."
Ms Causley said she had enjoyed the journey so far, but it was nothing like she had anticipated.
"I didn't expect it to be so massive and so extravagant," she said.
"It was the first time I had been to a crowning, and I was in it."
She said the pleasant surprise to the reality of the ordeal made her want to encourage others to give it a crack in years to come.
"I had initially perceived it to be like a pageant, but it's completely different," Ms Causley said.
"I have met so many people and I'm not afraid of public speaking anymore.
"I know how to organise events; it's a great experience."
Not only is Ms Causley gearing up for a jam-packed week ahead where the royal party attends festival functions, she also hopes to show her face at various events throughout her year as Queen.
"I hope I get invitations to events and I really want to be involved with things happening in our community - now's the time to really enjoy it," she said.
The Jacaranda Princess title was awarded to Rachael Mackenzie, Holiday Princess was Madeline McDonald and runner-up Holiday Princess was Stephanie Elliot.
