Excitement builds as racing returns to Grafton today
GRAFTON race goers can look forward to some exciting times as racing resumes today.
Clarence River Jockey Club CEO Michael Beattie said the club was not resting on its laurels after an outstanding July Carnival.
"Starting with the first meeting of the season we've got a good afternoon of racing ahead of us," he said.
"The top trainers in the region are bringing most of their best horses, which will guarantee good racing."
Beattie said the club was also working on enticing more people to the track with a special entry ticket package. "For the price of entry they will get a free race book as well as access to all member services," he said.
Beattie said the club had also had some good news with the granting of an extra Sunday meeting to Grafton in October.
"We'll make that a real community-oriented day and get some extra events happening at the track," he said.
"It will also allow us to push our Christmas meeting back to December from November, so it can really have that Christmas flavour."
Beattie is also thrilled at the strong rumour Grafton will again host a round of the Country Racing Championship in March.
