Raqqa attack to run with Mosul

RETAKING the Syrian city of Raqqa may happen at the same time as the battle for Mosul in Iraq, as the US and its partners increase the pressure on Islamic State. US Defence Secretary Ash Carter did not put any time on the Raqqa campaign but said it was on track. "Yes, there will be overlap (in the campaigns) and that's part of our plan,” he said after a meeting of 13 countries fighting IS. Mosul and Raqqa are the two pillars of IS's self-declared caliphate, and recapturing them would be a key strategic and moral win for the US-led coalition.
