Rates conundrum

IT HAS been stated that Yamba and Angourie have higher average rates than Grafton. That may be so as land values are far higher in Yamba and Angourie.   If you have a $100,000 block in Grafton you pay nearly the same rates as a $180,000 block in Yamba.   Realistically do you think that is fair?   What services does Grafton have that the grumblers are so in awe of. Try to walk around Grafton using the footpaths. There are not many away from the town centre, so you have to use the roadside and dodge the traffic. Not the case in Yamba though; all nicely kerbed and guttered.   Lawrence, Maclean and Townsend rating the highest down to Angourie, Brooms Head, etc the lowest, but what really is confusing, places like Ilarwill and Ashby have a higher rate than Yamba. Grafton the same as Junction Hill. In the words of Pauline Hansen "please explain".   D Mac, Grafton
