Ready to row

NEARLY half the Grafton Dragon Boat Club has left town.

Luckily the 24 members have a good excuse.

They will be lining up to compete in the AusDBF Australian Dragon Boat Championships in Canberra from Thursday to Sunday.

The 14 junior members, with their coaches Martin and Leanne Thompson, have been selected in the NSW Junior Mixed team, while the adults are in the NSW Northern Regional Masters Mixed and Masters Women’s teams.

The State v State Championships are held on Thursday, meaning the club will finally get to find out if all the training they have been doing since January was worthwhile.

With their record, the Grafton Dragon Boat Club is likely to return victorious.

From Friday to Saturday an inter-club competition will be held, with the club’s juniors to compete as the Torpedos, in combination with juniors from other Northern NSW and Orange clubs.

And this spells trouble for rivals.

The Torpedos recently won the silver medal in the NSW State Championships.

The club’s adult members will be competing in the “10s” events as Grafton Dragon Boat Club.

Both teams will compete in 200m, 500m and 2km races.
