Record number of residents elect to place votes early
DURING this election, more voters than ever before put their ticket in the collection box early.
Returning officer for Page, Leigh Thurgwood confirmed the trend.
He said since the regulations around when people could vote early were loosened after the 2010 election, more and more people had jumped the cue.
"20,000 people voted early, in early voting centres, in Page," Mr Thurgwood said.
Mr Thurgwood was overseeing Page's polling centres and did a tour of the electorate on Saturday.
He noted things were looking particularly quiet.
He said the polling centre which captured the most votes was in Ballina and the Valley's busiest centre was the Grafton Community Centre.
Like many others, due to work commitments, Mr Thurgwood also voted early.
