Redistribution puts Adrian Piccol's future in doubt

THE political future of New South Wales Education Minister Adrian Piccoli is in doubt, with his seat set to be abolished under a redistribution at the next state election.

Mr Piccoli's regional seat of Murrumbidgee is set to be absorbed by an expansion of the two neighbouring seats, Burrinjuck and Murray-Darling.

The changes were confirmed by the NSW Electoral Commission, which had the redistribution changes gazetted by Governor Marie Bashir on Thursday.

His seat will be replaced by a new Sydney electorate to accommodate population growth in inner-city Newtown.

The ABC reported Mr Piccoli said the decision was a "stupid" one, and did not need to happen.

It is understood Mr Piccoli is now considering whether or not he will stand for the state parliament again after the redistribution.
