Reef film to be aired at festival
ONE of Australia’s leading film and TV stars, Gyton Grantley, will headline a festival of Australian films heading to the Clarence Valley.
Grantley, who played a lead role in the crime drama Underbelly and starred in the Australian cinema epic Beneath Hill 60, will introduce his new Australian film, The Reef, at the official opening night of the National Film and Sound Archive Big Screen Australian Film Festival on Friday, April 1.
From Friday to Wednesday Yamba Cinema will screen a combination of modern films and classics, including Animal Kingdom, First Love, The Tree and Storm Boy.
Director Claire Gorman and rising surf star Jess Laing will be special guests of the festival and will introduce their inspiring feature film First Love on Sunday, April 3.
Yamba is a fitting place to feature the movie, as surfing film maker Paul Witzig, whose seminal films of 30 and 40 years ago have been archived at NFSA and released on DVD, lives in the town. For program details, go to: www.nfsa.gov.au/bigscreen.
