Study: Skin cancers kills more regional Australians

REGIONAL Australians are more likely to die as a result of skin cancer than their metropolitan counterparts, according to figures published by a national health group.

In a submission to a House of Representatives inquiry into skin cancer, the National Rural Health Alliance found that farmers were 60% more likely to perish from melanomas and other skin cancers when compared to the rest of the population.

For those on the land who are older than 65, the rate is double that of other Australians.

The NRHA suggested the better use of health professionals in regional and rural areas.
