Rescue chopper called to Yamba beach

THE Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter was called to Turner's Beach at Yamba on Friday night.

There were called by Ambulance NSW at 5.30pm after they received a report of a female who had been struck by a surfboard in the head. She had been taken from the surf and was initially reported as non-responsive.

When the helicopter arrived, she was being assessed and treated by ambulance paramedics and local police services, and was reportedly slipping in and out of consciousness.

A police spokesperson said she was transported to Lismore Base Hospital by the rescue helicopter, and was released shortly after midnight.
