Supermum resolves to reassess her resolutions in life
I MADE the decision a few years ago to make New Year's Resolutions only involving things I like to do.
Things like reading more books and spending more quality time with family and friends.
Like any New Year's resolution, believe it or not, they can actually be hard to keep.
Life just gets in the way.
I don't like to admit to getting older, but there are days I really feel my 40-something years.
After a hectic day at work sometimes you really want to just go home and do nothing.
But life is there waiting.
Kids, dinner, washing, cooking and cleaning, and all you are wishing for is a bit more sleeping.
Looking back over the past decade, none of my memories is of those dreary chores.
They are not about how much sleep I got either, except maybe in those early baby years. I sure remember the rare chances I had for sleeping back then.
No, my cherished memories are of wonderful adventures and good times with loved ones.
Even when life throws you a curve ball I think it means it is time to reassess your life and make positive changes.
And that is what a New Year's resolution is all about. Making positive changes.
If life gives you lemons, who says you can't make a lemon cheesecake, or at least have them on pancakes with a bit of sugar?
When one door closes you might even find something more amazing behind the next door, but you will only find it if you grab that door handle and turn.
It is just over halfway through the year and I am reassessing the resolutions I made at the start of the year.
If we can have Christmas in July, why can't we have New Year's in July too?
I am still going to make New Year's resolutions only involving things I like to do, and this time I am upping the ante.
I plan to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way; in life and in love.
No doubts, no fears, no holding back.
I've already let go of the past so I'm looking to the future.
I want my son to grow up looking towards his future with excitement at the possibilities too, not scared of what may or may not happen.
To infinity and beyond.
