Revenge porn laws: call for action from feds

An MP and a revenge porn victim have hit out at the the federal government for leaving reform in the area to an intergovernmental forum.

Brisbane woman Robyn Night suffered online abuse for years. She was described as a "gangbang slut" and "no limit slave" who deserved "extreme punishment" on sex site profiles without her knowledge before men were invited to her home address for sex.

Police charged a 41-year-old Redland Bay man with stalking over the alleged offences in October.

The terrifying ordeal sparked the 37-year-old's push for laws specifically targeting revenge porn.

It's a cause shared by Labor MPs Tim Watts and Terri Butler, who introduced a private members' bill in September to criminalise the act.

Any new legislation would be unlikely to apply to Mrs Night's case but she threw her support behind the move to help other victimised women.
