Rise and fall of surf culture

IN THE 1960s, with the backdrop of the Cold War, the younger generation living on the Australian coast began to ride a wave of change as surf culture took hold.

Weekend takes a close look at the rise and fall of 1960s surf culture in Australia, through the eyes of a photographer who was there to catch some of the best moments on the water.

As the weather heats up, the Weekend magazine out on Saturday, November 26 celebrates all things summer and the start of the festive season.

Weekend also chats with blues legend Bonnie Raitt as the music festival season begins and our foodies share recipes that hero the season's produce.

As the heat rises, and we begin to bare our bodies at the beach, our Mind You columnist also talks about body image issues and how to feel confident walking into surf or diving into a pool.

Health guru Sally Fitzgibbons wraps up her 12-week fitness campaign with a final round of exercises and a sweet recipe following the hard work of the past three months.

For those who would rather hit the air-conditioned movie theatre than the surf, Weekend previews the new Trolls film about to hit silver screens across the country.
