Rival clubs share honours

THE Junior Men's grand finals were played on Saturday, bringing to an end another long and entertaining season of hockey.

A number of the children looked like they could go a round or two more but for most parents the final day was a welcome one.

City Bears defeated Bears Elders 4-2 in the under-18 decider while Bards Kookas beat Royals Jets 2-1 in the under-15 final.

City Bears also claimed the under-13 crown, downing Barbs Bombers 5-1 in the final.

Royal Jesters won the under-11 decider, beating City Bears 7-4.

There was a fairly even spread of silverware between the different clubs this year, which speaks volumes for the healthy state of the Grafton Junior Men's Hockey competition.

Congratulations to the winning teams, runners-up, individual award winners and the many junior umpires.

To the tireless workers with the Grafton Hockey Association, canteen and the club volunteers and coaching staff from the Barbarians, City Bears, Royals and Sailors a big thank you.

Also, thank you to the parents who run their kids around to training and competition and finally to the children themselves for turning up and having a go whatever their level of hockey. Without the kids, as with any sport, there is no future.
