Rock 'til you drop
GRAFTON'S Criterion Theatre is taking a rock'n'roll journey back to the 1950s next Friday night, and all are welcome to come along for the ride.
The night will be the second in the Criterion's series of Friday dance nights - the first being a 1940s-themed dance held earlier this year which attracted almost a full-house crowd, who swung and jived along to the 16-piece Conservatorium Show Band.
One of the upcoming dance's organisers, Dave Mackey, said next weekend's Back to the 50s night was shaping up to be a blast.
"It's a Friday night dance with a 1950s theme. We've got a four- piece band, the Four Flames, who have specifically been rehearsing for this, so they'll be playing 1950s rock'n'roll music and we'd love people to come dressed up to a '50s theme," Dave said.
Apart from the authentic music and fancy dress, there will also be plenty of prizes, games, giveaways and more on the night.
Dave said people coming along to the night would also be helping to support the theatre.
"All the money raised on the night will go back into the theatre; we're still raising money to repair the roof and the money will also go towards ongoing costs associated with our theatre productions," he said.
Tickets, available from I Scream in Grafton and at the door on the night (if not sold out), are $20 for adults, $15 for pensioners and students.
