WHEN Ipswich student Ashleigh Rose entered the Face of the Globe International Beauty Pageant, she did not have high expectations.

In fact, the 22-year-old said she registered as "a bit of a joke".

But the real punch-line came last week when the Sadlier's Crossing girl was announced as a grand finalist in the competition.

Miss Rose said she was shocked.

"I do modelling part-time and registered through my agency, but I honestly didn't think I would be chosen," she said.

As an Australian representative she will travel to London and Paris in October to compete in the world finals.

It will be Ashleigh's first time overseas.

"Being up against all those pretty girls from across the world is going to be daunting," she said.

"But I'm really looking forward to the whole experience."

During the competition week, Ashleigh will model a series of outfits, answer questions from the judges and give a speech.

There are four age-sections, with Ashleigh competing in the adult section for those aged 18 and older.

Each contestant also has to fundraise for the international charity, the Rainbow Child Foundation, which helps underprivileged children across the world.

Ashleigh said she was busy co-ordinating events and activities for her fundraising campaign.

She is also looking for sponsors to help offset some of the costs.

Ashleigh said expenditures such as flights were not provided so she was keen to hear from any businesses which could afford to help.

"As an incentive, businesses who agree to sponsor will be published on the Face of the Globe website; promotions and their business cards will be given out on the night of the grand final," she said.

Ashleigh said her modelling began several years ago after she auditioned for the television series Beauty and the Geek.

"Out of all the audition applicants in Australia, I made it to the top 80 girls; then I decided to start a career in modelling," she said.
