Stabbing death of mother of six shocks community

THE tight-knit community of Rosewood has been left in shock following the alleged murder of a mother of six in her own home.

Emergency services were called to a John St home just before 7am yesterday, with police arriving to find 46-year-old Michelle Reynolds deceased in the bedroom.

Police said she had multiple stab wounds.

The discovery triggered a major investigation, both inside the house, and in the surrounding area.

The house was cordoned off, with forensic police and detectives combing the scene and door knocking neighbouring homes.

Crews also searched through long grass off nearby Karrabin-Rosewood Rd, in search of a murder weapon.

Councillor David Pahlke said locals were deeply concerned for Ms Reynolds' children.

"It is a little country town and when something like this happens it always rocks people," he said.

"It is very sad and you feel for the kids."

Police said no children were believed to have been present at the time.

Neighbour Shirley Stubbs said Ms Reynolds was relatively new to town but was known around the community.

"I didn't see a lot of them, but she was a very nice lady, I used to meet her when I went to the kindergarten with my grandsons," she said. "She was a lovely, bubbly person, really nice."

Mrs Stubbs said she had not heard any noise or commotion recently.

Police also said the residence had not come to their attention before yesterday.

Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Inspector Lew Strohfeldt said 47-year-old Wayne O'Sullivan voluntarily assisted with police inquiries from an early stage.

He was located in the Ipswich area a short time after the incident. A subsequent search of a thickly grassed area off Karrabin-Rosewood Rd - about 1km from the house - uncovered a knife which police believe was the murder weapon.

Mr O'Sullivan was last night charged with murder and taken to the Ipswich watchhouse.

He will face Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.
