Rotarians converge for annual meet

THE district conference of Rotary International in the Clarence Valley over the weekend brought together 500 people from throughout Australia to hear a line-up of Australian and international speakers.

The two-day conference, aimed at educating, inspiring and entertaining people on issues presented in life on a daily basis, touched everyone in the room, according to conference chairman Denis Green.

“We had a marvellous range of speakers who were all very well received,” Mr Green said.

The line-up of talent included former Australian of the Year, Kay Cottee, international star David LaMotte and child protection advocate and television personality Hetty Johnson.

A member of the Rotary Club of Grafton Midday Peter Robinson said the district conferences were always very entertaining for the Rotarians who attend.

“Rotary is all about adding value in our local communities,” Mr Robinson said.

Plans for next year’s Rotary International District Conference are well under way with the Clarence getting more recognition – Yamba is expected to be the venue.
