NRRRL: Marist Brothers pile on the tries
NEW recruits David Jacky, Sio Alefosio and Chris King scored tries for Marist Brothers when they ran out with a 46-24 win against Byron Bay in the NRRRL at Crozier Field, Lismore, yesterday.
Centre Mitchell Krause scored twice early in the second half to give the Rams a 28-12 lead.
Ball control and penalties hurt both teams with most tries coming off repeat sets and piggy-back penalties.
Byron Bay fullback Hayden Rosenbaum was dangerous every time he touched the ball and scored two tries in the second half.
The second came from a beautiful pass from halfback Tobin Cupples when Rosenbaum found his way around the Rams' defence to reduce the margin to 28-24.
Brothers winger Matt Tickle used brute force bursting through numerous defenders at the other end of the field to give the Rams a 10-point buffer with 17 minutes remaining.
Krause helped put second-rower Daniel Duncan over for a try before King put the final nail in the coffin a few minutes later.
Lock Jack Durheim, prop Lilo Stavenow and second-rower Kyle Kennedy also played well for Brothers.
Hooker Ryan O'Connell was a standout for the Red Devils, scoring a try and setting up another in the first half.
Ballina had a hard-fought 20-18 win over Murwillumbah in their grand final rematch at Stan Sercombe Oval, Murwillumbah.
