Russia charges Greenpeace activists with hooliganism


RUSSIA has dropped piracy charges against 30 Greenpeace activists, reportedly charging them with hooliganism instead.

BBC News reports the new charge has a maximum penalty of seven years rather than 15.

A Greenspeace vessel was seized by Russian forces after trying to infiltrate an off-short oil platform, resulting in the arrest of 30 people include two freelance journalists.

Bail applications have so far been refused.
