Safety priority at Minnie Water

FOLLOWING the recent influx of 4x4 vehicles using Main Beach at Minnie Water as a car park, the beach access point near the surf club has come under scrutiny of council.

Clarence Valley Council deputy general manager Des Schroder said he would recommend that council review the beach access and look at solutions to avoid the same thing happening next summer.

Mr Schroder said the beach entrance was provided to allow vehicles to access The Bay to launch boats, and even then those vehicles needed to display council beach permits.

He said the beach access was not there for recreational vehicle users to drive onto the sand and park for up to a day at the beach.

Last week council rangers were down at the beach on an almost daily basis clearing vehicles off the beach and issuing warnings and infringements.
