Sam slams eight straight as Tigers maul Magpies

GRAFTON Tigers wasted no time making a statement in AFL North Coast Seniors.

Sam Morrison booted eight goals as Grafton stunned 2013 premiers Port Macquarie Magpies by 130 points in a flying start to the season at Ellem Oval on Saturday.

"That's a real good start," coach Adi Campbell said.

"We've got Lee Anderson and Daniel Zacek back, they were brilliant. Ben Holder was phenomenal at half-back. Sammy Morrison's just a freak.

"We've got a very good, strong backline, strong forward line and the midfield's building."

Grafton burst out of the blocks from the bounce, kicking 18 of its 25 goals in the first half before the oppressive heat took its toll.

"After half-time we probably dropped off a little bit, started kicking a lot of points," Campbell said. "That's mainly fitness, so once the boys get that we'll be alright."

Meanwhile it was a tough initiation for Camden Haven against an emotional Coffs Swans side.

Shocked by the loss of club secretary Lynn Gow to a heart attack on Friday night, Swans came out firing to win 120 to 17 and record the club's first top-grade victory in two years.

In the other match Sawtell-Toormina was too strong for North Coffs, prevailing 29.16 (190) to 8.10 (58).
