Scams back in Grafton

WATCH out, they're back.

Clarence Valley residents are being urged to be vigilant for text scams currently circulating throughout the region.

The scam text falsely claims the recipient is the winner of a large sum of money through an online lottery, usually to the sum of one million pounds.

The scam proceeds to invite the recipient of the text to claim their winnings by forwarding their personal information including bank account details to an email address contained in the text message.

It is important to be aware that no company will ask for proof of identity by bank or credit account details, drivers license or similar over the phone or internet, especially since they should already have these on record if they are genuine.

Locals who receive a suspicious text from an unknown number are warned not to respond or give out any personal information.

Anyone who receives a text message they suspect to be a scam should be report it to SCAMwatch on 1300 795 995 or at www.scamwatch.gov.au

If you have received a scam text, contact Emma Pritchard on 66 430 513 or email emma.pritchard@dailyexaminer.com.au.
