South Grafton High out to continue best year on record

SOUTH Grafton High will have strong representation at the NSW CHS Athletics Championships which start in Sydney today.

The school finished fourth on 135 points behind Bellingen (151), Nambucca Heads (148) and Byron Bay (137) at the North Coast titles, with 12 athletes qualifying for state.

"I've been here 14 years and that's the best result we've achieved," South Grafton High sports coordinator Matt McKee said.

A major factor for the spike in success is due to a number of students in the younger age groups excelling in sprint events.

One of those is Natalie Avery, who was named North Coast 12yr girls champion after she won the 100m, 200m, long jump and 4x100m relay with Kya Boughton, Brooke Corbett and Lily Harris.
