SCHOOL SPORT: Iluka victory in knock-out comp
THE long awaited cricket game between Iluka Public School and Maclean Public School was finally played after heavy rains had previously postponed two set dates.
Conditions at Ken Leeson looked difficult for the two teams with patchy rain falling throughout the morning.
The game started with Maclean winning the toss and electing to field. Openers Harvey McEwan and James Lobb made a sensational start for Iluka with both players going on to post unbeaten scores of 30 not out retired. Luke Gregory and Joel Brittain were also solid contributors making a solid partnership of over 40.
After Iluka's allotted 25 overs the score was 138 at lunch. It was then Maclean's turn to bat.
Iluka bowled tight making it difficult for Maclean to score. Decoda O'Dell was devastating with his spin bowling taking 3 quick wickets.
Iluka's fielding also supported its bowlers with plenty of talk, sharp catches being taken and energy displayed when chasing anything hit in the fielders direction.
Maclean were eventually all out for 103.
The victory places Iluka into Round 3. The match will be played between either Harwood or Gulmarrad.
The team wish to thank the Maclean School for the game and for the many parents and spectators who came to watch.
