Secret Netflix codes to unlock hidden show categories

WITH more shows than you can shake a stick at, it can sometimes be hard to choose what you really want to watch on Netflix.

You may be looking for something very specific - or you may have no idea what it is you fancy binge watching.

That's why the streaming giant offers a handy selection of categories, which group shows and films together by their genres or themes.

For example, you can sort by "Featuring a Strong Female Lead", "Horror" and "TV Comedy".

But Netflix also features thousands upon thousands of hidden categories, which don't come up like these base groupings do.

And now, viewers have worked out how they can get to these secret themed groups, which offer some seriously specific choices.

You can access these categories using Netflix "codes", which you plug into the web address to access.

Each code refers to a specific category, many of which are far more niche than the basic categories anyone can see on the main Netflix homepage.

HOW TO USE NETFLIX CODES

Netflix codes are used to access hidden categories of shows which aren't normally available to browse by.

Go to What's On Netflix or NetflixCodes.me to find the code for the genre you fancy. For example, copy the code 10702 for "Spy Action & Adventure".

Then, plug the code on to the end of this URL, like this: http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/10702.

Copy and paste the URL, complete with the code, into your browser to access that genre.

What's On Netflix and NetflixCodes.me both list the thousands of secret genres, and how you can get to them.

They offer some brilliantly niche listings, such as "Deep Sea Horror Movies" (45028) and "Korean Crime Thrillers" (434).

But if you're in the mood for something really specific, head on to this extended list.

Here, you can narrow down your genre search to a hilariously specific level.

Categories include "Gritty Foreign Action & Adventure from the 1970s" (4094), "Understated Independent Political Dramas" (3118) and "Exciting Vampire Movies" (2949).

The codes can change from time to time as the Netflix algorithm evolves, so check back to stay up to date.
