Police investigate after fatal crash on highway

UPDATE:

LOCAL Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash just south of Grafton last night.

At about 8pm a man driving a Toyota Corolla was heading north on the Pacific Hwy when he crashed head-on with a truck, about 300 metres north of Tyson St.

The driver of the Corolla died at the scene.

The truck driver was taken to Grafton Base Hospital suffering shock.

The road was closed for sometime while investigators carried out their inquiries with highway traffic diverted onto Centenary Dve to avoid the area.

The Pacific Hwy reopened at about 6.30am today.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Grafton Police Station 6642 0222 or crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.

1.45am: THE Pacific Highway was closed in both directions at Grafton for hours last night and into this morning after a car and truck crashed.

The crash happened just after 8pm yesterday, just south of Grafton, and the highway was still closed when The Daily Examiner last checked at 1.44am.

Motorists were diverted via Centenary Dv.
