Seven fishermen missing in Gulf of Carpentaria

A SEARCH and rescue operation is underway for seven people who failed to return from a weekend fishing trip in Gulf of Carpentaria.

Officers said four men and three boys left Doomadgee about 3.45pm on Friday bound for either Eight Mile Creek or Horse Island (about 26km west of Doomadgee), to go fishing.

Family said they expected the group home on Sunday but they failed to return.

Queensland Police Service launched a land, air and sea search and rescue operation on Monday afternoon when the alarm was raised.

A fly-over of the area in a private aircraft was conducted and land searches are continuing.
