Shots fired in break and enter

POLICE are appealing for public assistance following an attempted break and enter in the state's north, where shots were fired with an air rifle.

About 4.30am yesterday, the residents of a home on Mt Lindesay Highway, Legume were awoken by sounds at their side door.

A 51-year-old woman went to the door, and a man asked to be let inside.

It is alleged that when the woman refused, the man fired two shots from the air rifle that broke the glass panel of the door.

A struggle ensued between the man and woman in which the man allegedly fired another two shots before fleeing.

The woman received treatment for a number of cuts to her hands, and the other residents in the home were not injured.

Police from Richmond Local Area Command were contacted and have launched an investigation into the incident.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a thin build, and was wearing a full face motor bike helmet at the time of the incident.

Anyone who has information that may be able to assist with police inquiries is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
