Judges go gaga over Toowoomba woman's newborn snaps

TOOWOOMBA photographer Sarah Gage is ecstatic to have placed second at an international newborn photography competition.

Ms Gage entered the black and white photograph of Claire Hinze to the Child Photography Competition and was announced as a winner last week.

The judges commented on the beautiful simplicity of the photograph.

The Toowoomba photographer started Sarah Gage Photography in 2012 and specialises in newborn and maternity portraits.

Ms Gage said she was over the moon with the judges' comments.

"I chose the photo of baby Claire because it reflects my style as a photographer," Ms Gage said.

"My style is natural and simple, concentrating on the tiny little newborn details and the connection within the family.

"I entered the competition purely for the feedback and the experience of entering a professional competition, but I have been blown away at the amazing result.

"One of the judges told me I scored 100% in the technical aspect," she said.

Ms Gage has been mentored by some of the most well-known international and Australian newborn photographers.

Ms Gage was one of 1500 entries in the newborn contest and said hearing the positive feedback had given her the confidence to enter other competitions.

"It is nice to know that my work is being recognised on a truly professional level and I plan to enter more competitions in the future," Ms Gage said.

Sarah Gage Photography offers services to families in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
