WHAT better way to kick off the Jacaranda Festival than dress up in a gorgeous gown or a schmick suit and enjoy a night of glamour.

The Jaca Ball is the first official event of the festival and everyone is invited to attend.

The junior and senior jacaranda candidates will be presented to the public for the first time and to the matron of honour Janette Townsend and guest of honour Dr Allan Tyson.

Ball director Wendy Taylor encouraged everyone to head along to support the candidates.

"It's about the support that the public can give them," Mrs Taylor said.

That means it's not just a ball for contestants and their families, it's about getting the whole community down to give the girls a round of applause for doing such great work for Grafton's biggest festival.

"It will be a fun mixture of the senior and junior girls and what better way to kick off the festival!" Mrs Taylor said.

The ball is on Saturday, October 19 from 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

It will be held at the South Grafton Services Club and includes a two-course dinner.
