Smash kills Eungai Creek woman

A 49-YEAR-OLD Eungai Creek woman died following a car accident at Blackadder Creek, near Corindi, on Friday.

Just after 3pm, it is believed a Holden Rodeo was travelling south along the Pacific Highway when it crossed lanes and collided with a Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction.

The woman, who was driving the Ford Focus, was trapped in the vehicle for a number of hours before emergency crews could free her.

Once freed she was airlifted to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital by the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter but later died of her injuries.

The driver of the Rodeo, a 19-year-old Bellingen man, was taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital with minor injuries.

A crime scene was established and the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit is looking into the cause. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
