Smith focusing on Cup success
HE HAS enjoyed a decorated career but surprisingly Australian captain Cameron Smith has never won a World Cup.
A victory at the global titles, starting on Saturday night against England, is now high on the priority list for the 30-year-old hooker.
"It is the only thing that I haven't won," Smith told nrl.com.
"We came close in 2008 but fell short and New Zealand were deserved winners.
"It would be nice to say that you are a World Cup winner, particularly when you have been given the privilege of leading the Kangaroos."
Smith said taking on co-hosts England in game one would be a massive task.
"In our pool it's probably the hardest one first up in England. They're playing on their home turf, they're going to be really fired up for this comp and it's going to be a tough game," he said.
Smith said the Kangaroos would need to be switched on to stop fullback Sam Tomkins, who scored twice in England's warm-up game against Italy.
"If you're talking about anyone having an x-factor in their side it's Sam Tomkins," Smith said.
