Smoky haze blankets city

SMOKE from fires burning at Sportsmans Creek and from Jackadgery to Dalmorton blanketed Grafton, although the fires were under control yesterday.

Clarence Valley Rural Fire Service inspector Grant Anderson said back-burning to contain the fires also contributed to the haze.

He said none of the fires posed a threat.

A NSW Health factsheet on smoke from bushfires recommends if you have asthma or a lung condition and you develop symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, follow your asthma or COPD action plan.

If symptoms do not settle, seek medical advice. If you are on home-oxygen treatment, continue as prescribed. If breathlessness worsens, contact your doctor.
