A SNAKE catcher has captured an angry eastern brown wearing only thongs.

Lockyer Valley-based snake catcher Andrew Smedley was called out to a job at Plainland where an eastern brown was hiding behind a sheet of corrugated iron.

"I had to do a few things that day and thought I had shoes in the car but didn't," he said.

But he didn't let the lack of footwear stop him and decided to do the job wearing thongs.

Mr Smedley said he usually wore shoes when rounding up venomous snakes but went ahead with the job anyway.

"So it was a plugger job," he said.

The lively eastern brown had been spotted the day before the capture in the landowner's dog kennel.

When they saw the snake hanging around the next day they decided to call in an expert.

"I had to move a few sheets of tin and it was under the last piece," Mr Smedley said.

He has been praised by fans for his "Aussie" capture.

Tamara Lawrence said: "Nothing more Aussie then wrangling the second most deadly snake in a pair of thongs.

"Good job."

Another fan named Graham said it was the snake catcher's choice of double plugger thongs, the highest standard available in Australia, that was important.

"As long as they were double pluggers you'll be fine hahaha, makes all the difference."

Thomas Lester praised Mr Smedley's enthusiastic capture.

"No hesitation, just dive in! Nice work."
