POLICE have seized a 2.3-metre boa constrictor in Singleton following fears it may have eaten a small dog and attempted to constrict its owner in his sleep.

The snake was seized from a home after reports the owner was keeping the reptile in his house.

It will be euthanised at a local veterinary facility due to the danger it poses to native mammals, household pets and the risk of spreading disease.

Investigations are continuing and it is expected the owner will be charged with possessing an exotic species without licence.
