Snap them up at the Minnie Water

OFFSHORE fishermen are reeling in bag limits of snapper this week, says Jim Picone, from the Minnie Water Store.

“Last week saw the beginning of some good snapper catches on the inshore reefs that have got even better this week,” Jim said.

Fishing at Minnie had also improved onshore with good bream catches.

A 3kg spangled emperor was caught off the rocks at Minnie this week.

This sought-after member of the emperor clan is a ‘good-eating’ fish and an indication of the warmer currents hitting our shores.

At Iluka, a beautiful 3kg perch had been weighed in, caught off Blackrock, with reports of good mackerel catches also offshore.

“And a 2.7kg tailor was brought in off the rocks at Woody Head yesterday,” Gabriel Behn at the Iluka Boatshed said, adding to further reports of good tailor catches off the Iluka Bluff, where large popper systems are being used.
