Changes afoot at South Grafton juniors

AN air of change is sweeping through the South Grafton Junior Rugby League Club.

With the upcoming season close at hand, the club has announced not only a new committee, but has previewed a fresh new strip to be donned by players this year.

The new committee - Ray Taunton, Karen Taunton, Peter Rigg, Pat Swift, Mark McGugh, Glenda Roberts and Steve Kirby - has confirmed the club's commitment to local junior rugby league

“In a constant attempt to boost rugby league participation in the Valley, the SGJRLC has undertaken to revamp and made a few changes,” club publicity officer Pat Swift said.

“We have current numbers of around a hundred juniors or so.

“We are looking over the next couple of seasons of raising the figure by 50 per cent.”

The club caters for juniors from under-6s to under-16s, and Swift said he hoped the club would attract players from the non-league fraternity.

“South Grafton has a vast area of kids who go to school who don't participate in the sport,” he said.

“We would like to get more of them on board.”
