South Pacific swims to QPAC

BRISBANE theatre goers are getting a Christmas present in the form of the hit musical South Pacific.

The Opera Australia production, which is sold out for the next two weeks at the Sydney Opera House, will open at QPAC's Lyric Theatre on December 27th, it was announced today.

Acclaimed opera singer Teddy Tahu Rhodes and TV golden girl Lisa McCune lead the stellar cast, which also includes Kate Ceberano and Eddie Perfect.

The show is a return to home soil for Aussie musical theatre export Daniel Koek, who has spent the past nine years performing in London and throughout the UK.

"I'm looking forward to some sun," Koek said.

"I haven't had an Australian summer for a long time."

The actor has reprised his role as Lt Cable and recently celebrated his 400th South Pacific show.

"The Australian cast, because they're new, bring such a great new fresh energy," he said.

"I'm learning new things about my part.

"Lisa is always saying 'let's try this' and 'let's shake this up a bit'.

"When you do it eight times a week it's so important to make different choices."

Tickets start at $79.90 and are available through www.qpac.com.au.
